autumn 2010

chill wind —
a red poppy
on his frayed lapel

the weight of a crow
on the tip
of a fir

dry cattails
the fading drone
of traffic

each footprint shaped
from within and without —
autumn rain

lakeside turtle —
a child tosses aside
his hoodie

autumn sunset
sometimes a dream
is only a dream

for Rollie:

the afghan she made...
purple chrysanthemums
for her funeral

my granddaughter
tries to save the frogs...
summer's end

shore pilings —
the thin line between
summer and fall
